SCROLL DOWN
Peter Brikmanis (also known as Peter Wilson) is a composer and musical chameleon based in Australia. His output is a genre-bending riot of exploration, encompassing chamber and orchestral pieces, ballet scores, film soundtracks, theatre works, piano improvisations, and the odd commercial track. These disparate pieces are unified, however, by Peter’s passion for crafting inventive and emotionally-engaging soundworlds.
For his theatre music, Peter is an ‘Offie’-nominated and Olivier Award-winning composer. He has worked on productions for a number of London’s prominent venues including the Old Vic, Soho Theatre, and The Pleasance, and collaborates frequently with The Australian Ballet. Notable recent projects include an orchestral score for choreographer Stephanie Lake's 'Seven Days'; a 30-minute narrative ballet ‘Wonderland’ for The Australian Ballet; and ‘The Wasteland’: a collaboration with Booker Prize-winning author Ben Okri.
As a composer of concert music, Peter has worked with the Riot Ensemble, Royal Northern Sinfonia, Loré Lixenberg, Ensemble 360, Ligeti Quartet, and Norrbotten NEO. He has been commissioned by the Royal Philharmonic Society, is an Associate Composer of the University of York Music Press, and has had music recorded and released by NMC Recordings and Coviello. A selection of his concert works is sold by Wirripang Publishers.
Peter has composed music for short films, documentaries, and installations. From 2019-21 he was a regular collaborator with Dialogue LLC (Seattle) and Microsoft, composing music for a large range of videos and mixed-media works.
In addition, Peter works as a pianist with ballet companies. He has played for the Royal Ballet, Northern Ballet, and Matthew Bourne New Adventures. He is currently employed by The Australian Ballet as Company Pianist.
Peter has been described as “having a willingness to engage in small, strange details” - a diagnosis Peter quite enjoyed.
